McMahon Stadium
Serving mainly as a football stadium, McMahon Stadium is located close to downtown Calgary. It has been home to several teams, including the
University of Calgary Dinos
, the Calgary Colts, Calgary Gators and the
Calgary Stampeders
. In addition, it hosted an open-air hockey match between the
Calgary Flames
and the
Montreal Canadiens
in 2011 and was the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies during the 1988 Winter Olympics. McMahon Stadium was built in 1960 and named after the McMahon brothers, two local philanthropists. Owned by the University of Calgary, it's run by the McMahon Stadium Society, a nonprofit organization. Snag your McMahon Stadium tickets at StubHub.
The stadium has approximately 35,650 permanent seats. The majority of the seating is situated behind either sideline, with the area behind the end zones used as club areas. Sections A through L are along the west sideline, and sections M through X line the east sideline.
There are several options for premium McMahon Stadium seats. On top of the west grandstands, there are numerous executive boxes where guests have VIP service and unobstructed views of the field. On top of the east grandstands, there's the Konica Minolta Club, a private place ideal for entertaining large groups. The Snapple Spiked outdoor patio suites provide an open-air experience as does the TELUS patio.
Children are always welcome at McMahon Stadium games. There is a special family section called Safeway Sobeys Family Huddle. This is a general admission, no-alcohol zone that's located in Section A. Another alcohol-free area is located in Section L. When an adult buys a ticket to the Family Fun Zone, he or she receives one free child ticket.
On-site parking is extremely limited and must be purchased ahead of time. Season ticket holders have priority over these reservations. There are numerous parking facilities around the stadium, including at Moose McGuire's, Westmount Charter School, Crowchild and 20th Avenue and the surrounding streets on the east side of the stadium.
This is an excellent option for many people as the Calgary Transit network is convenient and efficient. The Banff light rail station is just across the street from the stadium, and numerous buses have drop-off points very close to the entrance gates.
If you have time, visit the Dodge Fan Zone. This area has a variety of food trucks, events and special performers to entertain spectators and get people excited for each game. The Dodge Fan Zone opens two hours prior to kickoff and is located on the east side of the stadium near the ticket office.
