Espinoza Paz's background

By the age of 13, Espinoza Paz had already written over 20 songs. In 1996, he moved from La Angostura in Sinaloa, Mexico, to Sacramento, Calif., where he picked oranges and olives while developing his musical talent. After eight years of singing in regional bands, he got his big break when he performed his original songs for the Sinaloan band singer El Coyote. El Coyote went on to record three of Paz's songs, Besitos en El Cuello, Prohibido and Para Impresionarte, which became immediate hits. Well-known radio personality Martin Fabian recognized Paz's talent and began collaborating with him on his debut album, Paz en Tu Coraz_n, which was released by Nueva Generaci_n Music Group in 2007. After releasing one more independent album, Amigo con Derechos, he was offered a contract with Universal Latino. His first major album, El Canta Autor del Pueblo, was released in 2008.

Although by 2011, Paz was enjoying great success as a performer and songwriter - he won Songwriter of the Year at the Billboard and BMI Latin Music Awards that same year - he shocked fans by announced his plans to retire. But in 2016, Paz signed an exclusive worldwide publishing deal with Universal Music and his album No Pongan Esas Canciones debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Regional Mexican Album chart.
